Overview

VariQ has an exciting opportunity for a highly qualified Software Engineer to support the LDSI effort with the US House of Representative in Washington, DC.

 

Background:

Leading global Technology company seeking an Application Support Engineer to join a fast-paced IT and Software Escalation team supporting multiple high profile government customers on Capitol Hill and nationwide.  This team member will be part of a centralized technical customer service center which supports and develops proprietary web-based database applications.

 

Job Description:

The Application Support Engineer will investigate and resolve reported software defects and performance issues, develop solutions, review customer software enhancement requests and design custom SQL reports based on customer requirements.  As a technical leader, he or she will provide guidance and coaching for the first line helpdesk staff to increase technical knowledge and skills across the team.  He or she will be a Tier 2/3 resource within our customer support team.  Interactions include end-user support, collaboration with various levels of management across teams as well as documentation of solutions in ticketing systems and frequently asked questions.

  • Working Hours: 9:30 AM – 6:30 PM, Monday- Friday. Flexibility in schedule with potential for required overtime in evening and occasional weekend and holiday work

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • At least one year experience providing technical customer support and analysis for proprietary software. Previous support of high profile government customers is a plus.
  • General knowledge of database management principles (Oracle, SQL Server)
  • SQL command knowledge including ability to write queries for troubleshooting, updating or appending data.
  • Experience working with audit data and XML extracts.
  • Knowledge of basic HTML as used for eNewsletter design.
  • Current knowledge on a variety of technologies related to working with web-based software functioning in an enterprise network environment.  Examples include: Active Directory, Exchange Server, IIS (Internet Information Services), DNS and network troubleshooting. 

 

Desired skills:

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in computer science, software development or related field.
  • Certifications in Oracle or Microsoft Server
  • Project Management/team leadership experience
  • Helpdesk call center experience
  • Background in Training/Mentoring
