VariQ is seeking a full-time Desktop Engineer to assist in the National Credit Union Administration's buildout of the first iteration of the Windows 10 secure baseline image that can be used for alpha testing, evaluation of the user interface, and evaluation of legacy application compatibility with Windows 10 OS and MS Office Suite 2016.  The resource should have experience installing software and creating software packages.  Requires working knowledge of MDT, USMT, and SCCM.

  • Working Shift: The candidate will be working a standard shift, 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday, between the hours of 8am – 5pm, specific work hours to be determined upon hire.


  • Oversee the proper configuration and design of the Windows 10 image build
  • Ensure the appropriate USGCB and DISA STIG settings are applied and maintained; document the secure configuration
  • Provide weekly image status reports
  • Interface with SCCM or WDS Deployment Engineers
  • Experience in either or both SCCM OSD or WDS
  • Support image testing activities
  • Assist with knowledge transfer and documenting issues encountered (with resolution)


Required Qualifications: 

  • 5-7 years of experience with laptop imaging, DISA STIG hardening, SCCM packaging, AD/DNS/DHCP & Group Policy
  • Knowledge of Windows Server 2008, 2012, and 2016
  • 5-7 years of desktop deployments with Windows 7, 8, and 10
  • 5-7 years of desktop support and troubleshooting experience
  • Expertise with Microsoft Deployment Tool (MDT) and Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager in order to troubleshoot COTS programs/applications that clash with security protocols.
  • Experience with VMWare/Hyper-V and PowerShell
  • Desktop Engineer is going to need to have experience not only installing and reimaging desktops, but actually creating and engineering the original image itself. 


Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Polished professional with excellent verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare technical documentation
  • Familiarity with building and maintaining software testing environments
  • Familiar with software configuration management practices and build management
