  • Overview

    VariQ is seeking a SCRUM Master for a long-term contract with a Federal client in Washington, DC.  The candidate will be part of Agile teams working on modernizing an enterprise-scale system.  SCRUM Master will actively collaborate with government Product Owners, Enterprise Architects, external vendor teams, and internal VariQ team members to create high-performance, scalable, solutions based on stakeholder needs.  The SCRUM Master will support the Development, Modernization and Enhancement (DME) efforts and Operations and Maintenance (O&M) work for the Web Content Management System (WCMS) project.  WCMS is being delivered using the Agile methodology.  Sprints will run approximately three weeks in length.  Sprint lengths will be determined based on scope and customer needs.  The SCRUM master may be focused solely on DME, O&M or a combination of work streams.  Additional duties will include project management duties, such as project planning, execution and control as well as preparation of status reports and project briefing decks

    • Support release planning, sprint planning, execution, defect management, and deployment activities for DME and O&M workstreams
    • Project Management
    • Elicit, analyze, and support development and refinement of requirements (statements, user stories, applicable RPLRs) and related tasks for DME and O&M workstreams
    • Support review and prioritization of defect backlog for allocation to releases/sprints
    • Facilitate or participate in requirements elicitation and validation sessions with project stakeholders
    • Input user stories and defects into JIRA repository and maintain traceability
    • Collaborate with stakeholders and perform analysis to complete tasks, identify risks and issues, recommend solutions, and support the management of project tasks 
    • Monitor project performance, maintain project schedule, and report on project status:
    1. Weekly Status Reports
    2. Presentations as directed by the IRS Project and Program Manager (as needed)
    3. Creation and maintenance of a project schedule to track sprints and various work efforts.


    • A Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in the STEM field and 7+ years of relevant progressive experience.
    • Certified Scrum Master (CSM)
    • Certified Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) practitioner.
    • 7+ yrs of experience of analyzing requirements, creating/maintaining user stories, creating/maintaining project documentation.
    • 3+ yrs of experience as a Certified Scrum Master (CSM) in an Agile/DevOps environment.
    • Strong analytical, communication skills and attention to detail.
    • Penchant for working in fast-paced, collaborative environments with a strong affinity for innovation.
    • Strong expertise in Agile/Scrum/Kanban/Lean.
    • Experience with Agile.  
    • The capability to provide expertise, knowledge, and skills relating to production support, and lifecycle support, including Agile methodology.
    • Ability to rapidly adapt to changes in priorities and environments, including mid-sprint
    • Experience lead Drupal agile teams highly preferred.
    • Must be able to obtain a IRS Public Trust Clearance.
