    VariQ has an exciting opportunity for a highly qualified Mid-Level Security Authorization & Accreditation Specialist to support the Bureau of Engraving & Printing (BEP) within the Department of the Treasury in Washington, DC.

    The Mid-Level Assessment and Authorization Specialist will report to the Security Assessment and Authorization Manager on the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, (BEP) contract. In this role, you will work within a team of A&A specialists conducting all required activities to develop and deliver fully compliant, comprehensive, and assessment-ready security documentation packages with artifacts to enable BEP representatives to make sound, risk-based decisions required for the initial deployment or continued operation of Bureau systems, applications and networks. You will be responsible for conducting annual security assessments and continuous monitoring of FISMA reportable systems in support of the Bureau’s on-going authorization efforts and annual FISMA reporting requirements.


    • Facilitating the system controls selection with the system stakeholders;
    • Preparing System Categorization documents and working closely with the System POC to coordinate the data gathering effort;
    • Reviewing vendor documentation and analyzing evidence to ensure each control objective is properly evaluated and documented;
    • Determine/Define authorization boundaries, system descriptions and architecture, both written and graphically;
    • Determine/Define data flows; relevant services and tools;
    • Developing System Security Plans (SSP);
    • Converting SSPs to the latest templates;
    • Taking notes and asking relevant questions during meetings and then following-up with key stakeholders, as required;
    • Meeting deadlines and abiding by project schedules;
    • Attending and participating in team meetings and training (customer meetings/commitments take priority);
    • Taking pride in work products and authorship, delivery top quality results;
    • Completing work to quality standards set forth by VariQ and BEP.


    • Bachelor’s degree in relevant technical area or equivalent work experience. Equivalency is 5 years of work experience;
    • 2-7 years of relevant experience in information assurance, cyber security, or information technology;
    • Knowledge of National Institute of Standards and Technology’s (NIST) Special Publication (SP) 800-53 and NIST 800-137;
    • Demonstrated experience in understanding security controls, configuration management and Risk Management Framework;
    • Demonstrated experience conducting A&A activities and developing corresponding artifacts to include SSPs, Business or Security Impact Assessments (BIA/SIA), and Plan of Actions and Milestones, (POA&Ms);
    • Ability to develop strong working relationships with all relevant parties especially with the government POCs and stakeholders;
    • Ability to work well with others in a collaborative manner and be a self-starter;
    • Team player capable of working in a results oriented environment;
    • Strong interpersonal skills, team building, active listening, and attention to detail are a must;
    • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal with strong presentation skills.
