    VariQ has an exciting opportunity for a Chief Architect in Alexandria, VA.


    Additional Info:

    • Security Clearance: ability to attain a public trust required
    • Available: slated to start September 2019
    • Location: Alexandria, VA


    • Provides high-level architectural leadership and expertise to USG programs and senior level contractor enterprise architects and IT professionals.
    • Cultivates relationships with USG business stakeholders, IT management and contractor IT leadership.
    • Understands enterprise architecture frameworks such as FEAF, TOGAF, Zachman.
    • Maintain in-depth knowledge of IT industry best practices, technologies, architectures and emerging technologies.
    • Supports enterprise business and IT strategic planning. 
    • Develops and maintains in-depth knowledge of strategic agency enterprise business plans and IT objectives.
    • Supports, maintains and communicates enterprise architecture governance processes.
    • Supports, maintains and communicates enterprise technology standards and policies.
    • Reviews new and existing program/project architecture for compliance with USG IT policies, standards, guidelines and architectural plans.
    • Documents and reports exceptions to architectural standards.
    • Ensures that all project documentation captures significant architectural decisions.
    • Ensures that architectural governance is fair, consistent and transparent process.
    • Identifies architectural risks and proposes mitigation alternatives and solutions.
    • Initiates and delivers architectural programs that align IT architectures with enterprise business strategy, including program charters, schedules, requirements documents, specifications, design documents, security and testing strategies.
    • Supports system development teams, acting as the focal point for enterprise architecture and IT standards.
    • Designs and oversees secure implementation of end-to-end integrated systems.
    • Delivers architectural initiatives that improve IT efficiency and security inline with business strategy.
    • Maintains in-depth knowledge of the enterprise's technologies and architectures.
    • Develops and maintains current and planned state architectural blueprints.
    • Develops and maintains the aspirational architectural road map for the enterprise.
    • Communicates architectural decisions, plans, goals and strategies to USG stakeholders.
    • Gains USG stakeholder approval for enterprise level architecture and infrastructure initiatives.
    • Provides architectural insight and context to supporting solution architects.
    • Develops architectural metrics and reports for USG stakeholders.
    • Oversees the design and implementation of enterprise data and metadata structures.
    • Develops plans for integrating systems and workflows in support of business strategy.
    • Develops and enforces best practices for master data management, integration and security.
    • Develops and analyzes architectural products and deliverables for the enterprise and operational business lines.
    • Develops architectural strategies and plans relating to enterprise IT systems, infrastructure designs, and security.
    • Researches and evaluates potential selections of new IT technologies relating to data processing, storage, access, applications management and development, and security.
    • Recommends standards for the client/server relational database structure for the organization (e.g., MS SQL, ORACLE, SYBASE);
    • Deploys and/or maintains enterprise architecture repository and tool set.
    • Supports periodic architectural maturity assessments.
    • Supports development of impact assessments for financial, schedule, technical, resource, and risk levels for proposed architectural changes.
    • Supports USG security reviews, FISMA audits, OIG investigations, FOIA requests, customer leadership requests, IV&V, and/or quality assurance (QA) compliance assessments.
    • Supports processes and reviews for USG authority to operate and/or accreditation.
    • Fully considers OMB, NIST, FISMA, FITARA policies, regulations, standards and guidelines.
    • Advises program manager, technical leads, stakeholders and the contracting officer's representative for USG programs on all matters relating to the feasibility of future potential projects and IT strategies.


    • Years of Experience: 10+
    • Education: Undergraduate in Engineering, Computer Science
    • Required Certifications (1 or more of the following required): CISSP, ITIL, AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional,
    • Desired Certifications: Oracle Certified Professional - Database, or MCSE: Data Management and Analytics]
    • Experience with Sybase, SQL and Cloud technologies a must.
